So yesterday I weighed in because the plan was to have a date night and a nice dinner out to pre-celebrate Daddo’s birthday (or birth-week, as we call it in our house). It was a beautiful spring day, one of our first this season. We were both working all day, and decided it was way more important to get out and enjoy the late early evening sun than it was to go sit in a restaurant. So, we grabbed our ski gear and headed to the mountain with our skins…

Late season at Stowe

Late season at Stowe… still plenty of snow

For those of you who don’t ski, skins are faux fir fabric that adheres to the bottom of your skis so you can walk uphill without sliding backwards. Way better than carrying your skis when the lifts are closed!

Max came with us, and we skied some perfect, peel-away corn. A good powder day is great, but I think late spring skiing is actually my favorite. There is no rush to get the powder before someone else does, and the snow is incredibly forgiving. And I much prefer being warm to cold!

All in all, it was a lovely, spontaneous outing, and we wrapped it up with a drink at our favorite pizza joint, take out, and an episode of Mad Men. Now I am having a leisurely morning with no kids to wrangle to school. So relaxing.

Happy birthday, Daddo!

Happy birthday, Daddo!

On a side note, I am writing this less than 24 hours after the bombing in Boston. Stunning and awful. I don’t know what else to say about it, except that it is a reminder of how precious life is, and that we all need to make the most of each day…
